Cars & TrucksFor the Camaro Fans...

By Ed Peper
Chevrolet General Manager

I hope everyone enjoyed the holiday season and is looking forward to 2008, because I know I am.

Word has come down from Bob Lutz to remove the camo from the pre-production Camaros so further evaluations could be done for aerodynamics and cooling efficiency.

Here - for the enjoyment of our FastLane readers - is the first picture of the Camaro development vehicle without camouflage:

Camaro.jpg

During this upcoming year, pre-production Camaros will appear both on U.S. and Australian roads as we continue with testing and development. So keep those camera phones ready- if you happen to see one, we'd like to hear about it, so please post a comment and include your "spy photo!"

Mr Lutz,

The exterior is looking good, but please, please, please do not put the interior in it that the spy photos on the net are showing. That is the most hideous dash setup I've maybe every seen. I specifically leased my current vehicle so that when the lease was up I'd be able to buy the new Camaro. But I can tell you right now, if that's the direction the interior is going in, the Camaro is not going to be an option. And from reading the comments on the F-body enthusiasts boards, they are echoing my sentiments.

Posted by: Brandon Karpowitz on January 3, 2008 12:56 PM

Great shot - thanks for the teasers!!!

Posted by: Joe on January 3, 2008 1:07 PM

Rest assured, Maximum Bob,

The above sentiments are the minority. The interior looks fantastic--by far the segment leader in terms of innovative design--and I'm happy to say that, from what I can see in the shot above, the exterior will be just as striking. Bravo!

Thanks for the picture Ed! Us Camaro enthusiasts are extremely excited and can't wait for the arrival of the new 5th Gen Camaro! :)

Looks great! I'll bet it beats a 1.8T as well!

Posted by: Bofer on January 3, 2008 1:19 PM

The Camaro is absolutely a beautiful car and is proof positive of what GM Design can be. Just follow it up with a RWD Impala that is equally exciting and you will have a double-header!

Posted by: Todd on January 3, 2008 1:21 PM

Exterior looks good so far. From the shot on this site, it looks like rear view visibility will be limited. Can you provide some measurements like length and width? I realize they might not be finalized but a range would be nice to know.

I hope you can keep the weight down. No more than 3500lbs would be nice.

Posted by: Paul Eccles on January 3, 2008 1:25 PM

Bob/Ed, It's Beautiful!! Bring it!!!! Please cut out the vents on in front of the rear wheel!!! I can't wait either way. Thank you so much!

Posted by: Fred Turner on January 3, 2008 1:29 PM

Maximum Bob is dropping it like its hot. Everyone loves it but we need Moar pictures. This will beat everything but the 1.8t.

Posted by: Maximum Bob Fan on January 3, 2008 1:29 PM

Way to stay a step ahead of the spy photographers.

Just PLEASE do something about that interior.

Posted by: Aldo on January 3, 2008 1:30 PM

Hi Brandon,

after your comment I was searching for interior spy-shots of the 2009 Camaro and finally found some at Autoblog.com. I can't imagine, that these are showing the interior of the (final) production Camaro. Just look at those wide gaps, which could be recognized there. According to the new direction GM is going now and after the latest highly praised interiors of GM-vehicles, this will never ever be something, which might be offered to customers. That's just provisional, which will do for a pre-production vehicle. I am convinced, as far as the level of quality and style is concerned, we can anticipate something, which will be absolutely comparable to the interior of the all-new Malibu, or maybe even better. I think there's no need to worry.

Great looking car, and I enjoy that they're taking every means necessary to make sure the car is built as well as possible.

It is an interesting approach, to embrace spy shots, but I think it is the right thing to do.

The comments about the interior can be frustrating to people who follow vehicular development a lot.

That is not a production car.

Why would they put the final interior into a car they are just doing engine tests on?

The car is almost a year away.

Even the picture we see is not final until they start tooling up the lines.

Calm down people. Bob's got this one.

Posted by: E.L. on January 3, 2008 1:40 PM

If thats the interior, I want my deposit back.

Posted by: calebe on January 3, 2008 1:44 PM

Guys, the car looks just as good as I was hoping it'd look. Thanks for stripping the camo off and letting us take a good look at the car as it is.

As for the excuse about aero and cooling efficiency? BULL. I bet Bob is like all the rest of us and just can't wait to show this new car off.

Posted by: Jim on January 3, 2008 1:45 PM

looking at the spy shots, the interior looks cheap and plasticky. The only thing I like are the small gauges, those are a nice touch. The shifter looks horrible.

Posted by: Fred on January 3, 2008 1:50 PM

Thank You Ed !! I can't wait for this to be in my garage !!!!

Posted by: Rick Klein on January 3, 2008 1:56 PM

We appreciate the thought, Bob, and Ed. Thank you for sharing this with us!

As for comments about the interior...I for one like it. Others may not (but chances are, they haven't yet realized that this is indeed a pre-production car).

So, again; Thank you GM, Chevy and everyone involved with the Camaro project. You have my personal, heartfelt thanks for bringing back a legend!

Posted by: Joe B on January 3, 2008 2:00 PM

Sweet!

Thanks for the picture, it looks really great!

A comment on the interior spy photos:
The pre-production materials don't look too great, however I'm sure it'll look awesome in production form when the right materials are used and the gaps are sealed up.

These pictures only make me more excited to see the final production Camaro!! Woohooooo!!!

Dear Bob

Why is it taking so long to get the Camaro to market.Dodge showed the Challenger about the same time as you showed the Camaro but they will be on the market over a year ahead of the Camaro. I under taking your time and getting it right but taking tooo much time could prove costly. You are already years behind the Mustang which by the way will be coming out with a new one possibly before the new Camaro hit the streets. When you have people with pent up enthousam and you make them wait too long that turns into frustration and you could lose them to the compertition.

Posted by: Felix Biggers on January 3, 2008 2:13 PM

A preproduction interior is rough at best because : the tools many times are missing their in mold grain , the films or the soft wraps if applicable. You don't think that GM would step up the game on all of its cars and let this one fall through...Please...have some faith here

Posted by: Cristian on January 3, 2008 2:22 PM

Ed,

Before I go on my rant, I just wanted to say that you guys are doing a great job, and I wish you all the best for the new year...

The spy shots just came out for the Camaros interior, and you may have to step in for some damage control. Now granted, I understand this is a test mule, and obviously will not have the brushed aluminum, or high quality plastics that a production version would have, but can you really tell me, that you think the overall design looks good? I will admit that the Steering wheel and shifter look cool, but terrible gauge layout and overall flow of design, is, well...I'm not going to say it's ugly, but I think it could have been a lot better. I'm hoping that they are just bad pictures, and it looks better in real life. When I go to the NY auto show, ill let you know for sure. Regardless, with that exterior, I still cant wait to get one.

Frank

Posted by: Frank on January 3, 2008 2:23 PM

looks very good in that pic just like the concept. Unlike many here I didnt think the interior shown on other sites was terrible. I'm glad to see it doesnt use a bunch of GM parts bin components

Posted by: sheth on January 3, 2008 2:24 PM

The Camaro exterior looks great.

Unless you've already done it, can we get rid of the SES lights on the dash that just stay on maybe replace them with a mild not so frightening 'maintainance reminder' that doesn't stay on. Not very many technicians are smart enough to make them go off the first time and that hurts the image of the products. And it seems they are way too sensitive.

Posted by: Edwin on January 3, 2008 2:34 PM

Please don't listen to the brownnosers on the overall interior design. In its current look, the shaping and layout is awful (fit and finish are obviously early and should not be discussed). The central control stack looks like a late 90's Xplod unit, and is overall highly tacky, and the guages down low just don't mesh with anything resembling aesthetically pleasing. In its current form, it's childish. Don't finalize this look, pretty please? Please take this into consideration, as well as the positive reception of the work done on cars such as the CTS and Malibu. You can do an interior better than Ford, so do it!

Posted by: Joel on January 3, 2008 2:38 PM

I don't know Ed, this uncamo'd Camaro pic, isn't really that hot looking to me.
Maybe it's just the angle.

I really want to resist forming an opinion on the Camaro until I see a real one in person. But holy cow, those interior spy shots circulating today, have got to be of the ugliest interior I have ever seen. Ever.

Pity, since GM's interiors have been taking quantum leaps forward recently.

And keeping mission critical gauges down low, behind the shifter, will make them useless to most people, especially those of us over 40. So are those gauges merely a gimmick? If so, what's the point?

I want to keep the flame going for Camaro, but today's interior spy shots especially, may end up being a deal killer for me.

Please prove me wrong.

Very cool, I'm looking forward to SEEING the new Camaro on the road. A shame there is no new T/A for us 'bird fans.

Posted by: Scott on January 3, 2008 2:41 PM

i will get one with a V6 and not a V8, please. And with cylinder deactivation. I heard there is a 20,000 USD budget version.
GM needs to raise the CAFE by 40%, otherwise it would face hefty fines. When I am cruising, I just need 3 or 2 cylinders. If Honda can offer it on its V6 Accord, I don't think the extra cost is a major consideration.

Posted by: ghent the Car King on January 3, 2008 2:42 PM

The issue with the interior isn't necessarily the materials or the fit and finish. It's the whole retro wanna-be design. Ever since the original concept there have been many people who have hated the idea of putting a retro interior into such a slick modern-heritage package. The only people i have heard that like the design are a small group of the most hardcore enthusiasts.

Those hardcore enthusiasts would buy even if it had milk crate seats though. The goal should be making something that is less polarizing and more modernly styled and ergonomic. If the 5th gen had an interior on par with the GTO / G8 it would be a slam dunk home run with everybody. As it is, i can already see every magazine on the rack panning the retro interior as gimmicky and lame, just like most did about the original concept.

Posted by: Ed on January 3, 2008 2:48 PM

I'm not sure why so many are disappointed with the interior shots? My daily driver is an 07 Mercedes S550 and I'm still still impressed with what I see in these pics. I think despite it being retro here and there it is still very original and modern. Thank you for not doing another mundane Corvette/Aura/Malibu style center stack. This interior along with the current Civic's should win awards for best bang for your buck. Well done.

Posted by: teidsmore on January 3, 2008 2:58 PM

Please release as many special editions as possible to throw the Mustang's current sales under the bus. There is no doubt that I am buying a camaro when it comes out in 09'.

Posted by: MadMan2007 on January 3, 2008 3:11 PM

I think it's beautiful..inside and out. I think the interior spy-shots we've seen, if accurate, show a refreshingly different instrument panel. Why should all cars look the same inside? And the exterior? Gorgeous. I have a 1/32 scale one on my desk right now. Love it! Great job to the entire Camaro team!

Posted by: Arrib on January 3, 2008 3:18 PM

Car looks good....not so much the interior dash.

Think AUTOMETER gauges here guys. Big WHITE ROUND gauges with BIG RED needles. ANalog...no digital crapola.

Also...whats up with the 20 mph increment speedos. Go back to the 10 mph incremental ones.

None of the posted speed limits here are in such increments.

Postings are in 45mph, 55, 65 etc. The 20 mph gauges are hard to read when glancing

We need to be able to glance down and see the reference position without having to actually cognitively "read"

Posted by: bill on January 3, 2008 3:27 PM

I don't see Dual Zone Climate Control?! NAV?! Come on, this car is going to be over $30 large. Malibu and Aura no NAV or Dual Zone, Bluetooth?! Come on...GM you are SOOOOO CLOSE! Please stop de-contenting your vehicles! 4 Speed Automatics in the 1/2 ton Silverados and Suburban/Tahoes!!! I would gladly park any of these in my garage if they were not so behind the times. I vote with my dollars. You can crush the competition with your mass production capabilities and going BEYOND them by making optional things like NAV, Bluetooth and Dual Zone Climate at least standard on LTZ/Limited type models.

Please GM, Bring me Back.

Posted by: Jeremytallman on January 3, 2008 3:31 PM

Mr. Lutz I own a 1995 camaro and the interior is crap, with plastic all over,I saw the interior photos and that is just plain hideous please change it so when it does come out we will all be happy with it.

Posted by: Jerrad Lorlovick on January 3, 2008 3:36 PM

Personally I'm glad that the interior is going to be original! Can we have a Nav option please?

Posted by: Fred Turner on January 3, 2008 3:37 PM

Ed,

The Camaro looks great. Unlike the rest of the complainers I like the direction the interior is headed. I understand its a stripped pre-production setup and most of the final trim pieces are not in place. Now just stuff the supercharged 6.2L LS8 under the hood, call it Camaro Z28 and let me know when I can place my order. ;)

~jg

P.S. Make mine hugger orange metallic like the convertible concept please. ;)

Posted by: jg95z28 on January 3, 2008 3:45 PM

Oh, my, god.

GM is going to sell a ton of these. To be honest, when I saw the spy shots I thought it looked pretty bland. It's amazing how much difference the camo makes.

Anyways, we just got pictures of the interior and I really like it. Most people seem to hate it, but whatever. You could always make up for it with the Firebird :)

Posted by: Fred on January 3, 2008 3:47 PM

Mr. Peper,

Thank you for the photos. I am saving for either the Camaro or a next generation rear wheel drive Impala. There are many rear wheel drive fans that are eagerly awaiting these cars.

Posted by: Eric Matthew Vest on January 3, 2008 4:19 PM

Looks really good, I'm looking forward to the production unit.

My last four cars have been Japanese but this may be able to bring me back to a domestic manufacturer.

Interior looks pretty good even as a pre-production unit just provide some color options like on the Malibu to liven up the dash. No need for a wall of gray plastic. Also option trim packages to improve the interior for those that want to spend the money would be good. I don’t mind spending another $1,500 for an interior with better plastics and more color options.

Also while I know the Camaro, Mustang and Challenger are in the "Muscle Car" segment please pay extra attention to the handling. One of the things that keep me away from the Mustang is the poor handling. I don’t expect it to handle like an RX8, S2000 or an Evo but please make sure it can handle some twisties. Show the world that America can make a fast, agile, great looking and feeling car for a good price.

Thank You.

Very nice of you all to put it out there. A little more retro would make me a bit more happier but all in all I like it. I cant wait for the convertible. The interior is not bad at all. Those test guys just need to keep it a little cleaner :)
I am saving up for one of these babies!
It will look good next to my 01 SS and 80 Z28

Posted by: Mike Cio1 on January 3, 2008 5:01 PM

Wow, the exterior is looking good, and glad to see the new Camaro coming along!
The interior looks totally out of sorts, and I must say it does not match the rest of the car at all. I am a little disappointed on the interior. Please do not let that interior go to production!

Posted by: Kevin on January 3, 2008 5:09 PM

I like it. Very sweet looking body style and, I do like the interior and as was stated earlier, Please do keep the Curb weight down if Chevy/Camaro does really want to compete with the the Mustang and all the Imports. 3400lbs should really be the target weight.

Posted by: Rich K. on January 3, 2008 5:28 PM

If we all remember the poorly anticipated and awaited 2004-2006 Pontiac GTO. Way too heavy at 3750lbs which made the performance kinda sluggish at an even Bloated price on the window sticker. My 2000 Z28 was quicker and I only paid $22,700 and i ran 13.30s stock no mods

Posted by: Rich K. on January 3, 2008 5:33 PM

I LOVE IT!

Thanks GM.

Posted by: Aizmov on January 3, 2008 5:33 PM

Ok, neat looking.. But 1st thing to come to mind is a Ford Mustang anda Dodge Magnum produced a child...

I have a '83 Z-28 and other than the interior needing to be redone, works great.

I wa shoping for something similar -- maybe just th angle of the photo... Guess I will have to wait some more, but doubt the body will change much this close in...

Posted by: D Nix on January 3, 2008 5:39 PM

OMG!!! I have been waiting to get a camaro and even bought a new house with a 3-car garage so I could have a place to keep it warm during the cold winter nights. But I have to be honest, I really like all of the camaro's during the last 40 years...but this interior shot has me baffled!

I just told my wife forget it! If that spy shot is the production camaro there is no way I can sit in front of that dash and be excited about the car. PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE put a nice modern stylish dash...not that cheesy thing!!!

And what's up with those air vents?? They look like the old grand am air vents...please don't do it!!!

Posted by: Mike on January 3, 2008 5:57 PM

Looks good. But it's not the looks that could kill this car, it's the lack of an LS3 that will kill it.

Don't mess this up like the GTO the first year, all show and no go. LS3 or no Camaro at all IN THE FIRST YEAR!

Go all in or go home.

Posted by: KC on January 3, 2008 6:04 PM

not sure why we're dissapointed? Let's start with how 'chunky' everything looks and general blandness in front of the passenger. The the auxilary gauges on the console are as lame as the ZR1's skylight.

Is there any creativity on the Camaro design team?

Posted by: Tim B on January 3, 2008 6:22 PM

I hate to say it, but i have seen the new mustang in person and it is so much sportier than the camero and challenger. they're so clunky and beefy compared to the mustang. looks wise, the new mustang can really compete with a lot of foreign cars, and even to an extent the 3-Series coupe. the camero and challenger are an average muscle car. no class, no brains. the mustang on the other hand....

with advances in cadillac with the cts and saturn with their WHOLE LINE UP, and chevy with the malibu and tahoe/suburban....the camaro really classes down GM

Posted by: Ross on January 3, 2008 6:32 PM

What a bunch of whiners. This car is PRE PRODUCTION, as in not finished yet! I'm thrilled GM finally got its head out of the sand and decided to ressurect the Camaro, and to do it as a modern rendition of the first generation. I have confidence in the people at GM from top to bottom, knowing everyone involved will do their part to produce a product second to none...Thankyou, GM, I will be owning a new Camaro!

Posted by: John K on January 3, 2008 6:41 PM

Ed,

Congratulations on a great exterior for the new camaro. Thank you for keeping it very close to the concept.

I don't have as kind of words for the spy photos of the interior. Production materials and fit and finish aside; the layout of the center stack is an abomination. I didn't like the concept interior before, but now even it looks good.

Do not make this another 1st Gen CTS bust on the interior. The center stack needs an emergency redesign before release. Otherwise you'll be fixing it in the next overhaul just like the CTS.

Thanks,
Cole

Posted by: Cole on January 3, 2008 6:43 PM

Absolutely beautiful. I can't wait 'til I can pull into my local Chevy dealer in my put-put Aveo and drive away in my powerful new Camaro. The interior spyshots look great also.

Posted by: Rich Ayars on January 3, 2008 6:59 PM

I will keep my comments to the interior, since that seems to be the most controversial. Like the exterior, the design "idea" was adapted to fit the G8 platform instead of the Corvette which the concept was built from.

It is a pre-production car, which is done with prototype tooling, not production tooling- meaning the plastic is plasticky, shiny w/ no grain or paint. I expect it will improve significantly upon final production. I did not expect the console gauges from the concept to make it to production, so kudos to the design and engineering team for making it happen!

My biggest gripe is the design seems disjointed shapes between gauges/steering wheel/HVAC and nasty phallic shifter, but I expect the final colors and trim pieces will "hook" everything together.

Posted by: anonimo on January 3, 2008 7:46 PM

The HVAC controls look like a "pregnant belly" coming off the dash- that does seem weird.

Posted by: anonimo on January 3, 2008 7:48 PM

Wicked Cool body design. Hope it proves to be a reliable and durable competitor against the Honda/Toyota products.
Please, Please, Please scrap the speeedo and tach pods. They be buttugly and I am confident no one could possibly like them as much as I dislike them!

Posted by: Steve Schuler on January 3, 2008 8:06 PM

The Camero has generated more commments and fervor on this blog than any other!

Still, it's a good idea to let Camaro fans see this car as it develops.

In fact, this may evolve into a case where a GM car is, via this blog (or another of GM's choosing), fine-tuned by direct suggestions from its future buyers. It could prove a new way for automakers to develop successful cars, rather than the usual market surveys, et all.

Posted by: kurt on January 3, 2008 8:26 PM

why do people continue to poo poo the mule interior photos? i think its been explained plenty of times. anyway, i really need to start that camaro fund.

Posted by: Brian on January 3, 2008 9:30 PM

GM,

From an aspiring Automotive Designer, In my opinion the Camaro shot I see here looks like the car is right on track. I like the gills in front of the rear wheel, keep them. Nothing looks wrong here, although I hope the front stays true to concept. I really would pay no attention to the naysayers and naggers trying to mess with success, let them get out the bondo and mods when they get theirs if they don't like it.
Design the Camaro like the concept ment it to be...a totally awesome, head turning rear-wheel drive performance vehicle that is offered at an attractive price.

The Interior is for the test vehicle, guys, c'mon and quit the whining... I'll bet there are still designers working on it...
Bob, I have no doubt that you are making sure the New Camaro will be Awesome, and
My Dad plans to buy one...
I absolutely love the Concept, and All of the shots I have seen so far are absolutely on track. I know you all are still working on this car and will get it right. I have no doubt in you GM, with hits like the new Malibu, CTS, Enclave and many recent products,...the sky is the limit. I just have this to say...GM won't mess this car up...trust me.

Posted by: ZHDesign on January 3, 2008 9:52 PM

This car is gonna be a runaway hit! people either love it or hate it and as anyone who follows cars knows that's a good thing!

Good job on GM for realizing that the Camaro is a vehicle that's supposed to invoke passion and emotion.

please leave the middle of the road "clinic" mobiles to Honda and Toyota, from the looks of the raw unfiltered opinions being expressed here, GM is well on it's way to another design renaissance.

Posted by: Ellis on January 3, 2008 10:35 PM

well at least it is coming back. i am happy to see that. unfortunately i see it not much more than a retro camaro. i have owned up to 3 camaro's at once. i am down to one right now. it takes up enough of my time and attention, it is a 4th gen, which at least was unique when it came out. the 5th gen looks like a new age 69 camaro, imo that was quite dissapointing to see.

if i ever line up next tone on the street and it beats me i'll sell mine and buy one.

as far as the interior goes, i haven't seen pics, but haven't noted the comments from everyone. being on the autmotive launch side of things, i realize the birth of the product and the stages in which it can undergo, especially interiors components, lol!!! anyhow these parts could be SLA's, most likely off of prototype tools, as someone else mention ungrained. there is alot that goes into maintaining nominal gaps throughout all components, especially A surface parts which everyone touches and feels, and has in plan sight on a daily basis, when behind the wheel of their car. sorry i am yammering now, lol!

look forward to seeing GM bring back a legend, regardless of my opinion, not bad looking, just not original like the 4th gens were, imo.

spanking your 5th Gen,
Taner

Posted by: 9SEC6SPD on January 3, 2008 10:42 PM

I agree with the first comment-the center stack on the interior spy shots looks hideous. Reminds me of GM in the 80s-not a good thing.

Posted by: SteveG on January 3, 2008 10:50 PM

Man, GM could screw up the recipe for water.

Way to take an exciting concept car and compromise it into tedium.

And that's just the exterior, the interior is COMPLETE garbage.

Hopefully these spy shots are just to get some candid feedback before the final dies are cast, as there's a lot of back-tracking that needs to happen.

The Camaro concept looked like the rebirth of a legend.

This un-camo'd prototype looks like the legend has been aborted.

Come on GM, give us the car the poster promised us, not this.

Honestly, between the weight it's going to have to add to avoid eating the Corvette's lunch, plus this tacky styling, plus the inevitable dealer premiums, I might as well save up for the new Subaru WRX STI instead. It's just as ugly(but just as fast) for about the same price, but at least I'd get reliability and AWD.

Come on GM, you screw up the Camaro and you might as well call it a day.

Posted by: John on January 3, 2008 10:53 PM

Love the exterior, although I'm curious why the front hasn't been revealed.

Still not liking the interior, the rounded dash has curves and hard edges sticking out, and there is a lot of geometry going on, it doesen't look cohesive.

If it could have a more defined center stack, and have a bit more continuity, that would be great. As would making that lower cluster an option, because it seems to be lacking storage space.

Posted by: Wayne on January 3, 2008 10:57 PM

i love the exterior. i like the interior too but it needs improvements like some brushed aluminum or possibly some woodgrain like my 69 and tighter seams.i like the retro look of the gages in front of the center console but just like the 69 they are for looks,i never use them except for cool lighting.i cant wait to see what the SS has to offer

Posted by: bob conger on January 3, 2008 11:12 PM

Looks fantastic for a preproduction prototype. People, please remember that is all that it is. It isn't a finished product. One person close to the project said what we see now (this official pic as well as the recent spy pics of the interior) represent 65% of the way towards a final product. So there is still a long way to go to make this better.

As it is, I love it. Making it even better seems impossible, and that just makes me excited beyond words.

Posted by: Tyler on January 3, 2008 11:25 PM

I have to agree with the first post by Brandon Karpowitz. I too viewed the interior spy photos on leftlanenews.com, and find the interior less than inviting. I am saving money to buy the new Camaro when it arrives. However, if the interior from the prototype is what the production will wear, I will be probably consider the other two pony cars (no need to mention any names). I am not a big fan of either Ford or Dodge, but if I am going to spend a bundle of my hard earned money on a car that I will drive daily for a long long time, I might reconsider the options. So, please don't put that ugly and impractical interior in the real deal. I love what GM have done with the new Malibu and the G8. Both have handsome and classy interiors. Sometimes stepping away from the norm may not be the best. All you have to do is look at BMW's iDrive. It is certainly different, but is it good?

Posted by: Steve on January 3, 2008 11:59 PM

I love the exterior, but I have to agree that the interior is inferior. I realize that it is not the final production version but it needs to be as good-looking as the exterior. I have been putting off purchasing a new car for the new Camaro. Please, please don't dissapoint me. And by the way, the handling has to be as good as the exterior if you want a big hit on your hands.

Posted by: Frank on January 4, 2008 12:14 AM

While I understand the spy shots are of a prototype, as other have said, I really hope the interior looks nothing like the interior in the spy shots!

Those of you that justify the interior, you could be right, but what if you're not? If nobody shouts out "THAT INTERIOR LOOKS HORRIBLE", and it ends up in the production model, you will wish people had said something before it came out ;)

Other than that, looks good. Maybe I'll even buy one. I miss my WS6.

Posted by: Mike on January 4, 2008 2:40 AM

looks great

is it still a RWD?

With news that the Impala is going back to a lame FWD platform i wouldn't be surprised if GM did a FWD Camaro..

How many years is it gonna take for an actual RWD sedan or coupe to hit the streets of the USA???

Posted by: dazed on January 4, 2008 7:07 AM

Excellent move to release "GM" photos of the car. Many of the 'spy shots' taken don't do the car justice, ...yet they are critiqued to every last detail.
It's a great way to obtain 'live' review/feedback on the production version of the car, ...from a photo that more accurately depics it.

...I can't wait to see it in person : )

Posted by: KevinK on January 4, 2008 7:16 AM

Bob, Ed, THANKS! I want to point out to everyone else that posting this photo only underlines the fact that GM is proud and confident in this product. It looks great, period, and it is miles ahead of it's competition.
Let's all agree that we are very excited about this car and more than a little defensive of it. I understand that the interior is NOT COMPLETE. It will be refined. I will also vote with my money...on my money it says "In Bob We Trust"

Posted by: Rick on January 4, 2008 8:13 AM

I like the camaro but I saw the pictures of what the Chevelle could look like at GMInsiders.com and I fell in love! Man the way you all are heading I'm ready to trade in all of my cars and go Chevy all the way!!! Bring it on!!!

Posted by: SimplyMarvelous on January 4, 2008 8:36 AM

The interior is hideous.

Posted by: Nick on January 4, 2008 8:39 AM

I can tell you that alll though that may be a rough interior quality-wise, the arrangement is likely to be what we see in production and it stinks. That's a deal-breaker for me, and I was specifically holding out for this call. Change that awful control head!

Posted by: JK on January 4, 2008 9:03 AM

I guess I am in the minority here. I think the car is hideous. What's up with the high belt line and the tiny slit windows? This makes the car look way too big, especially with the 20" wheels (which adds unnecessary weight!). I'll bet this pig weighs no less than 3800 lbs.

Posted by: Sean on January 4, 2008 10:07 AM

I love it, inside and out! Remember people, this is a pre-production interior. It is FAR from finished. I personally, love the styling direction. It's modern, but also pays homage to the 1st gen Camaros and it will be unique instead of from the parts bin. And the exterior is sexy as hell! Thanks Bob, Ed, Scott, and everyone else on the Camaro team. You nailed it and I can't wait to see one in my garage!

Posted by: Eric on January 4, 2008 10:15 AM

folks, here is a newsflash: If that is indeed a rough version of the interior its not going to be scrapped at this point in the program. The vehicle goes into production in 11 months so you will likely see some form of what was shown in those pics. You can post here 100 times if you wish but they are not going to redesign the interior just because 30 people on this blog don't like it. With some colors and nice trim I think it will be fine. This is a car that will cost around $25k in base form, maybe even less. It's not competing with the SLK or G35 coupe so let's keep things in perspective here.

Posted by: sheth [TypeKey Profile Page] on January 4, 2008 11:11 AM

The more I look at this car, The more I actually like it. What's appealing to me is that while there are definitely hints that it takes a bow to the muscle car era, it has enough modern design to carry it over to a new generation of buyers rather than pin it all on baby boomers.

The side profile is one of the better looking cars I've seen lately. In fact, the sides of the car look more like a European sports coupe.

I'm not about the get into the interior. It is what it is, and the fact that it's somewhat spare is true to the original.

Posted by: edvard on January 4, 2008 1:43 PM

Looks awesome. I want mine in silver or yellow or black or red, or blue or white!

Posted by: Ames Tiedeman on January 4, 2008 2:38 PM

I Like the exterior shot. I (really really….)hope that the side brake vents have at least some function not just indentations on the sheet metal. Also the side mirrors more practical as they are in this version, are completely way too big. I was hoping for something in the middle between this and the concept. As far as the interior spy photos I’m ok with most of the interior(realizing this is not production quality and finish I.E. the borrowed interior seat). Yet I think the steering wheel and column are way to big(looks like a torpedo coming out of the dash). Again something in the middle (given the concepts steering wheel does not house an airbag)would have been great. Lastly the a/c vents are just horrible, like any other air vent out there. Something closer to the concepts but more functional would have been nice.

Posted by: Raul on January 4, 2008 3:00 PM

Ed and Bob,

First, I want to congratulate you two on a very well done job on the Camaro (and other new GM models) and with handling the public (especially with this site).

I have every intention of purchasing a z28 version of the new Camaro but please post some notice telling me and most everyone else that the interior in the spy shots is not the production version not just regarding gap fitting (we all know its a test mule) but in style (new 'bu is great) and features (sat nav-its 2008 and 09 by the time it hits the road). Plus, please equip bigger brakes on a sports car with 20" wheels.

Posted by: itwasi on January 4, 2008 4:35 PM

The retro design of the new Camaro is the best, but that dash and console instrument thing sucks; one of the few things I disliked about those original cars. Why on earth would you be looking at your consul to check yor oil psi? I just took delivery of a new Soltice GXP and I've heard you are putting more emphasis on interiors. My last car was a 2002 Cavalier, much maligned for it's cheap interior and I have to admit, it was better than my new Solstice.

Posted by: Charles Rohde on January 4, 2008 4:36 PM

Screams cheap. The seats look very cheap, almost flat. Lack of bolstering and style. Certainly doesn't look like the typical Holden car.

Posted by: Tommy K. on January 4, 2008 6:29 PM

While I'll be buying a Camaro, I wonder why GM is not working to replace the Cobalt, G5 and Aveo. I am a shareholder too and think the Cobalt is way too more important than Camaro for my investment

Posted by: Mbuku Kanyau on January 4, 2008 6:44 PM

Hello Ed & Bob,

I would like to congratulate you and your teams of designers and engineers for creating a downright mean, sexy and stealthy beast of a car. I really think you guys hit the nail on the head when it comes to this vehicles' design, as it is well balanced and evokes the need to own one... or two.

For many people Apple Inc. is considered to be the leader in industrial design and creates some of the world’s most desirable products, aesthetically pleasing, functional, elegant and simple. I feel that GM should take a page from their (Apple's) book when it comes to human interface design, functionality, and ease of use & implement some unique navigational electronics in the Camaro's interior. For instance OLED displays, HUD (head up displays), a big colour LCD or OLED screen for communication/multimedia connectivity, Stereo Bluetooth 2.0, improved ergonomics and lines that match or exceed the cars exterior 'wow' factor. In other words, this car's interior needs to be refined and streamlined and not necessarily pay homage to something that is ancient and obsolete.

Remember, design has come a long way since the 60's 70's etc. The Camaro shouldn't be just an American Muscle car reborn. We live in times where technology and design transcends cultures, is global and see's no barriers. I'm assuming that you are creating a 2009/2010 'dream machine' for the masses, so you should really try and cement consumers' buying impulses with a stunning finish - throughout. This would also mean marketing this car globally with less emphasis on just 'Americana'.

As I live in Melbourne Australia, it is great to see us Aussies contributing to this project greatly and playing a pivotal role in its final stages of conception. I hope that you guys at GM in the US recognize that the Camaro is as much Aussie as it is American - in fact, international. Therefore I hope to see these beasts in all their glory roaming the streets of Melbourne and beyond, in a native right side driver set-up, with a reasonable price point that isn't double that of the US. Please do not dissapoint us here in the land of Oz.

Yours truly, Mr. Pantic

P.S. I am counting the months, days, hours, minutes and seconds till I get mine. In the mean time, I will just have to continue caressing all 7 of my 1:6 scale Jada Toys remote control replicas.

Posted by: Mr.Pantic on January 4, 2008 7:16 PM

Yes! I can't wait for this car to come out. Looking good GM! Please produce a ZL-1.

Posted by: Jason on January 4, 2008 8:33 PM

I'm willing to bet that if we found out how many of the critics of the interior on this post actually realize that the interior of the Prototype is far from finished; that'd give a good indication of who to take seriously, and who to disregard. And probably more than 75% of the naysayers in here fit snugly into that "Disregard" category....

Not to mention the fact that bringing the interior at all was a little uncalled for. As I don't think that's what this blog was about.

Pass along to the whole Camaro team - if you would, that I for one, greatly appreciate the work they're doing - keep it up!

Posted by: Joe on January 4, 2008 9:08 PM

Can you guys say SNAP-TITE MODEL!!!?? I too, leased a car in time for this, or the Challenger to come out.Again you see how they prime us for a hot car and this is what we get. Kinda reminds me of when Mcdonalds sells me a BIG MAC on a poster it's looking yummy ...but when I get it it looks like Hernano was having a bad day and took it out on my food. Mr. Lutz, check this out ok, give back some of the money they pay you and invest it in your company's products, or suffer the wrath of Mustang cross shoppers and the rest of the educated car buying public. I have had 4 Camaros .....so my opinion counts.

Posted by: jotorn on January 4, 2008 11:02 PM

Those that do not like the interior should have said so when the show car was revealed.

The interior is just a productionized version of the show car design.

Posted by: dazed on January 5, 2008 3:13 AM

Looks awesome to me! inside and out. I like it better than the concept.

Posted by: bobby on January 5, 2008 3:13 AM

good god man what are you thinking? how do you expect to sell this car to women with no cup holders?

smooth out that hideously out of proportion dash! it looks like someone grabbed up all the dash features and made them smaller than they shouldbe and then scrunched them up in front of the steering wheel.

i am loving the car, i am fearing the dash will be a perverted representation of the concept.

Posted by: houston on January 5, 2008 5:23 AM

I hope GM is smarter than to allow that tacky, gross interior to make the final cut. It would be a shame if it did. That is why GM slipped to 2nd place; poor quality inside and out. See Corvette interior also...it sucks too. Maybe I should just buy a Nissan GTR. G!

Posted by: G on January 5, 2008 9:46 AM

exterior = beautiful
interior = not

especially the steering wheel!

Posted by: Guy on January 5, 2008 10:17 AM

...Look at that stocky trunk/rear...ya just want to hug it! Thank gosh this car is coming back. Thank You GM - It was my 1st Car, It's gonna be my last. As long as it says Camaro on it, I'll drive it.

Posted by: Jay on January 5, 2008 10:56 AM

I saw the spy photos that prompted the "lift the camo" directive. That sounds good to me; the Camaro design has not grown old since its concept debut.

But to my eye, the most interesting thing on the car carrier in the spy photos was the Commodore sportwagon. I have mentioned it here before, but let me reiterate: Please sell this car in the US. It's exactly what I'm waiting for.

Posted by: Stuart Schmitt on January 5, 2008 4:01 PM

Hi Ed,

Looks like another hit is on the way! People have no clue about prototype interiors, but needless to say that the interior will be very cool once completed. The house of Chevrolet is looking to be shaping up one new car at a time. Good luck at the NAIAS with the Malibu!

Posted by: J.Crew on January 5, 2008 10:03 PM

The exterior is pretty much what I would expect. The good ends there.

The interior -- man, I really do understand the desire to create something unique for Camaro inside. The problem is that interiors from the 60's died in the 60's for many reasons. They weren't practical. They didn't look very good. This "modern" interpretation of the 1st Gen's interior is no exception. The square gauge pods are cheesy. Ugly, in fact. The radio/HVAC controls look lifted from a Sega Genesis controller. So is this supposed to be a retro 60's interior or a retro 90's interior? The whole thing looks like a hodge-podge of themes. And I am NOT criticizing materials or fit. I fully understand it's a work in progress. It's the overall theme that is so disappointing.

Quite honestly, you do something like this on a niche retro vehicle like the SSR. Not a high-volume sports coupe. And I think it's interesting that Corvettes get modern interior designs -- I can't imagine Chevy ramming an interior like this through their enthusiasts on the C7. I am sad to say that my overall enthusiasm for the new Camaro has taken a nose dive after seeing these pictures. I hope when the final production car is unveiled, my spirits (and faith in Chevrolet) are restored.

I love the new Camaro! I can't wait to buy one. For all the people who don't like the inside of the car maybe you all should learn how to spell camaro before knockin the car. I guess we can all tell who the real camaro fans are here.

Posted by: Jason on January 6, 2008 7:14 PM

Mr. lutz
Chevrolet is on to something amazing with the new camaro. From my standpoint as a car fan and drag racing fan i think there is sum inportant features that need to be offered. For one there needs to be a solid axle option avalible. Second it needs to have a bitchin interior im talkin hurst shifter big tach performance seats and everything else that makes a camaro a camaro. Third u need to have a 600+ H.P engine avalible because i plan on goin out and spankin sum challengers and sum mustangs. And fourth of all and probaly the most inportant it needs to be affordable for the common man. the camaro doesnt need to exceed 45,000 dollars no matter what options are selected. cant wait to drive one. thanks 4 ur time

Posted by: jordan wesley on January 6, 2008 9:45 PM

So far the exterior looks great, and hopefully the interior will be redone to match the beautiful exterior. By the time the Camaro arrives in the showrooms, it'll be mid or late 2009. In order for it to compete, it must offer many options. Here is a wish list of what I think should be either standard or available options in the Camaro:
1. GPS
2. Xenon headlamps
3. Paddle shifters
4. Push-start button
5. Chrome door sills with Camaro logo
6. Premium audio system with built-in hard drive for music, 6-disc CDs and MP3 plug-in jack
7. Blue-tooth
8. Self dimming rear-view mirror
9. On-board computer that shows outside temperature, mph, avg speed, and distance to empty
10. Automatic on/off headlamps
11. Power sunroof
12. Leather wrapped steering wheel
13. Choice or leather or chrome shift knob
14. Keyless entry
15. Remote start

It looks awesome. I hope GM takes them on tour and has them at the autoshow in motion events. It would be a great time to get more pre-release feedback.

Posted by: Nate on January 7, 2008 2:39 AM

This new Camaro looks absolutely great, And I would like to an interior that can match the looks of the exterior. These gauges down-low seem pointless, who would look at them while your revving up the engine through a corner?? As a Dutchmen living in Germany I do hope the driving charactaristics are tested and set-up on Germany's Nurburgring, like it was done for the new CTS. If so, handling wont be a problem!

By the way, great way to get the opinion of the crowds and listening to the market.

being a worker in the plant I must say that I think it is taking too long for this camaro. We should building this thing right now.

Great job to all involved in the return of a legend.

Posted by: Rob on January 7, 2008 9:16 PM

Gordon,

GM seems to lag behind.. They talk up their cars and then take a long time to actually release them. I remember when the Solstice was a big deal, back when it first was shown as a concept it was awesome... but after seeing it as a concept car for so long the newness wor off to me. GM needs to be very careful on this stuff. The main problem is that their fans are demmanding things but nothing is being released yet. So they release information and then take forever on their actual products, by then the money burning a hole in the GM fan's pocket has made half of them go out and buy another car that fits the need.

Just my thoughts

Posted by: Nate on January 8, 2008 12:55 AM

Yep I bought a last Monte SS to get me by, but sometimes its annoying to be watching this car come along and yet you cant get it NOW, and heck by the time it comes out who knows....

Posted by: Bruce Eckerman on January 8, 2008 11:07 AM

Ed,

As someone who has been very critical of GM, I must say I am more excited to buy a new Camaro than I have ever been to buy any car! You folks get it! A car that appeals to a broad range of people because of tight, crisp style, modern refinement, and yet retains the aura of a classic Camaro. I have been folowing the development of the car and every move since I saw the silver prototype at the 2006 Auto Show.

It cannot come soon enough!

Posted by: Joe D., Cleveland OH on January 8, 2008 11:04 PM

I saw the High Resolution image of the same shot on this blog. I must say im not happy with the fake white/silver simulation trim along the tail light, and the true backup lights that appear as a slit half way down the bumper. Also the Gas cap was perfect in the concept. From the same image mentioned before and some inside sources it sucks that you put the gas cap on the side and to top it off on the opposite side of the driver.ARghhhh. I hope somehow thats corrected before production(could be an autralian thing?). What can I say were just the buyers no one listens to us ,I can sacrafice a few things like the door handles the b pillar the rim sizes, ect. But is every corner being cut to save some pennies?

Posted by: Raul on January 10, 2008 10:23 PM

2nd place? Gm has been in 20th place for a long long time. Interiors like this one are exactly why.

Posted by: dave s on January 11, 2008 3:03 AM

Since when did the GM styling people turn the "retro" camero into the Ford Mustang? This car looks nothing like the silver one at the auto show a few years ago. What happend the sharp edge design? I haven't seen any of the interior pics yet, but I hope they don't disappoint like the outside.

Posted by: Jock on January 11, 2008 1:34 PM

Ok Bob, time to call in the Malibu and CTS interior teams and send them down under. The guys down there are not doing so well on the interior. I really like the exterior, but as it stands, I'll be giving my 30k to someone across town.

Posted by: tanner on January 11, 2008 1:47 PM

I decided in 2006 that the next car I buy would be a Camaro. I have been watching the development of this car since I saw it in 2006. I love the interior in the concept. but the interior in the test mule is awful. Please, either be more true to the concept in regards to size color and placement of the guages, or use the Cadillac CTS as a point of reference. The bulky shape house the radio in the test mule must go and the four guages must be pulled from under the dash.

Posted by: Gmfan on January 11, 2008 8:55 PM

great looking car interior looks great to. can't wait!

Posted by: adkins on January 14, 2008 1:03 AM

As far as the interior is funcional and has a minimum quality level, it really doesn't matter. This car is about an "statment" to the outside. Nobody never cared about mother's uterus!!!
Bob and Ed, don't let this put you down.

Posted by: Paulo Manzano on January 14, 2008 4:25 AM

Ed and the Entire Camaro Team:

I guess everyone has their opinions. Not everyone agrees about everything and that is what makes this country (USA) great.

Having said that, I would like to throw my 2 cents worth into this.

I have been following all the rumors, catcalls, facts, photos and drawings since the first ones leaked out just before the NAIAS in January 2006. I have watched the development of this car as time progressed and you folks were willing to share what you could.

As far as I am concerned, I am tickled to death with the progress made on this car. My only disappointment was the addition of the "B" Pillar. But, I eventually accepted the reasoning behind it.

Having said all that, I would also like to comment on everyone's scatalogical complaints about what they see in the various photos (Official or otherwise) showing the Camaro while it is being devloped.

Settle down folks, get a grip onthis. Virtually every vehicle manufactured today, undergoes this same type of development during production preparation.

Basedon what I have seen with recent GM designs, in particular the interiors, I think the end product will be somewhat spectacular by the time Camaro hits the showrooms.

Hang in their! Cheryl, John and Scott, keep the fire burning!!

Just as a side note i think it would be awesome if there was a Heads Up Display option for the camaro.

Posted by: Air Goya on January 27, 2008 6:34 PM

Everything looks great so far from all I've seen except for one thing. Those tailights have got to be adjusted. A set of 4 squared off with rounded edges would look better. These make me think they were an afterthought in the design and the hemisphere design looks as if they were cut off something else and made to fit the concept.

Posted by: Hassan on February 15, 2008 7:40 PM

My first car was an 80's Camaro, and I am glad to see the best elements of the 60's, 70's and 80's made it into this new design.

Posted by: Daniel R. Kazakos on February 16, 2008 12:15 AM

Love that your bringing the camaro back and it looks great.

Just a few things that i'd like included if your listening. Can u add some functional stuff to the interior like NAV and a good cd player with ipod interface (no need to put in a dvd player theres no use for it).

Also dont forget the aussies who helped build this car cus im a aussie and i would love to buy a right hand drive camaro for a reasonable price.

P.S. lets see you guys release some new pics of the front the rear and possibly a production interior if youve got it and please make it in a colour that we can see all the vents and stuff the white really doesnt show everything clearly.

Posted by: Nick on February 17, 2008 4:37 AM

Outside = excel

Interior = disappointing

Posted by: Seb on March 7, 2008 10:45 AM

The only thing I would change about the exterior are the reverse lights. Why not make the bumper smooth and split the two inner rear lights for reverse? As for the interior, please do not inclulde a bulge arond the center console. Make it more true to the concept wihout the bulging Xplod console, or make resemble the CTS. And I liked the metal anodized finish on the conept guages better. You could even consider a color varioation of gold, silver, white, or red like the GTO had. I still love the car

Nice looking vehicle all around. Any plans for a high performance supercharged diesel engine?

Posted by: Bobby on June 16, 2008 11:46 AM

the car looks great, but I am a little surprised with the rear lines you didn't come up with tail lights simular to the 69's. You could have gone all the way across with the R&L side with the 3 slanted type lens.Just a thought, hope supercharged rumers are true for the Z-28 can;t wait.

Posted by: carter on June 19, 2008 2:40 PM

I personally like the styling but there are a lot of people out there that I've spoken with that do not like the rear of the car at all. They love the other 80% of it but I think the rear styling of the car will prevent it from becoming the big hit that it could be if everything were just right. I have read and heard the reviews from the average consumer and it's not as positive as the comments on here.

Posted by: Sean Simpson on June 23, 2008 12:29 PM

GM. The shots of the 2010 Camaro are great. I've been patiently awaitibng this car for a while down. I just say the pictures of inside the car and wanted to say that the idea od the 4 extra gauges on the center colomn is a cool idea. but I was wondering if someone could explaion to me the RPM and Tac-ometer idea. cause i cant really tell if its a digital read out for both with an older style number system for alooks, or does it actually use the outside lying numbers on the gauge to show how fast you r agoin and at what rpm.

Posted by: Vince on June 25, 2008 9:57 AM

I believe this is a very good step forward for GM. I have been a Camaro fan since I was 5 now ill be 24 when it comes out. But ill buy mine at 25 i want the Z28 package. With every Option THEIR IS! Thankfully ill have 20k saved by then maybe a lil less. So my Payment on that Beast wont break the bank. I was just born in the wrong time. i wish i was born in the 50's to buy the 67 RS/SS Camaro but i wasnt. So ill buy this one with all bells and whistles and do what they did in the 60'S keep in storage and drive it only on the weekends so i can have it for 40 years like the renegades from the 60'S that still have their Camaro's. Being the Origonal Owner will be a GREAT privledge and honor to these cars. Cant wait to see them up close and Test Drive one.

Mr Lutz i think the camaro is awsome looking you guys did 1 hell of a job on it there is one down fall for me it is not really that big of a deal i think it would be a good idea to put eather the 6.2 liter supercharged or the 7.0 liter out of the zo6 in the camaro ss we need something to really put down that p.o.s mustang and the new chargers.i will buy a ss when thay come out no matter what but it would be good to have that 500+hp thanks john brooks

Posted by: john brooks on June 26, 2008 1:23 AM

It looks fantastic! But gas will soon be at $5.00 a gallon. It will sit in your dealerships and you'll scratch your heads and wonder why it isn't selling. I would love to buy one but I'm a realist and won't buy one until you bring out an EV Camaro. It's not that you can't - because we all know you can. It's time, Mr. Lutz.

Posted by: David Sanchez on June 26, 2008 9:31 AM

I have been following this car for the last few years..The more I catch up on what's happening with it, the more I want it! My husband wont tell me no, so I will be driving the SS model when "she" comes out! HA! I cant wait! I already have a space cleaned out in my garage for her! GOOD JOB guys, keep it up!

Posted by: Tracey M. on June 26, 2008 12:03 PM

I would like to know when I can buy one! I think it is the most amazing car I have ever seen.

Posted by: Sue on June 26, 2008 2:18 PM

OMGSH!!! i absolutely LOVE this car i hope this is the car i get for my 16th bday

Posted by: Kalee on June 26, 2008 2:42 PM

I do love the body and the exterior, I do have to say i am not fond of the dash set up, mainly the tach and speedometer. I do like the gauges on the center column though. I am looking forward to buying my first f-body though.

Posted by: Eric on June 26, 2008 8:04 PM

I LIKE!!!!... wait scrath that. I LOVE!!!!! someone please let me know how much its gonna cost?!?!

Posted by: cody thompson on June 26, 2008 8:44 PM

Well I have been doing more reserch and I found out that there is a camaro SS coming out and I am SOOOOO stoked that there is one coming out. As soon as they go on sale I am deffinately gonna buy one.

P.S. one thing I would like to say is, congradulations to all the people that were involved in designing the new camaro. You guys made a fantastic muscle car.

Posted by: Brock C. on June 26, 2008 10:34 PM

The exterior design is impressive. Hope the interior turns out very close to the prototype.
From the outside looks this is my favorite, but this might change dependent on how the interior turns out.

Posted by: Georg on June 27, 2008 12:59 AM

Looks fantastic! I had to trade my 4th gen (2001 Z28) in due to my commute/gas prices, but I definitely want to re-indulge myself in one of these babies. Vents in front of the rear wheels would be sweet, and hopefully the interior won't be too gaudy....but all in all...I GOTTA HAVE ONE!

Posted by: Timmeh on June 27, 2008 5:56 PM

I know most people like the set-up of the inside cabin,, but personaly, i would have liked to see a more updated and curent setup with gauges and levers and radio options, but with the same body style,, because the outside is "slamin"......

Posted by: Chris Williams on June 27, 2008 6:37 PM

Please, PLEASE make sure you offer the hide away headlights as an option...trust me, I know plenty would be willing to upgrade for that option!!!

Posted by: Curtis on June 27, 2008 10:18 PM

The Camaro Convertible is the best looking version of the camaro EVER. Do not change a thing! the rear end from the side view, the antenna, the front end.. the sides everything is absolutely amazing on it. I hope the coupe is similar!

Posted by: Brad on June 27, 2008 10:36 PM

Stunning, all out the best 21st century look of any manufature. You must insist on fit and finish. What are the chances of making a hard top converitble?

Posted by: mark on June 28, 2008 12:06 AM

Hey, The Camero is so sweet! Its truly an amazing car. You guys definitely did a great job building it. The question i have is whats the prices on those casue i have a 69 chevelle i would be willing to trade in for one.

Posted by: daniel on June 28, 2008 11:46 AM

The car is awesome and I can't wait! The dash is just fine the way it is. I love the retro large size meters and the 2-tone interior colors. Don't change anything there. One comment put down the Mustang and the Charger but other than the Vette, we've got nothing else affordable for the average American. I have a Mustang now but I had a '70 Javelin SST I liked. My all-time favorite was my prized 1988 Monte Carlo SS. So thank you Chevy for giving us a new 'real' drive!

Posted by: Shadowfax on June 28, 2008 2:37 PM

Looks just Ok...far cry from the concept...disappointing in my book....will wait for the coupe and see how that fits the bill. Man, thought I'd found my dream car when the concept emerged...now this one is just 'ho-hum'. Sad.

Posted by: Christi R on June 28, 2008 3:16 PM

Omg, the new camaro is baddd i love it it looks mean wich is a good thing don't get me wrong and i also love the interior but one little thing is bugging me which i sthe rims they look like the aveos kind of but anyways if i was to own one i wouldn't be complaining at all! so i guess if you haven't figured it out now i'll tel you i give this chevy and thumbers up!

sincerely an 11 yr. old!

Posted by: Joseph on June 28, 2008 8:53 PM

Looks good except for the interior.

Posted by: Tony on June 29, 2008 3:56 PM

cant wait for the new camaro,i own 3 different ones,i love them, and there all mustang killers, and know the new one will be too!!if you own a bowtie your a pimp...keep up the good work GM...........

Posted by: brandon on June 29, 2008 5:31 PM

I like the retro look and want a convertible SS. I want the SS version to include the 505 HP LS7 engine and hideaway lights option like the vintage RS package had. Put vintage-looking SS insignia on the center of the grille, both fenders (behind front wheels) and on the rear...and get rid of the Chevy bowtie...it's tacky looking. Also, include the 427 cubic inch insignia (not in liters), on the fenders too. Paint the rear panel black to signify an SS model. Lastly, offer Brembo brakes.

Posted by: Bernard McDonald on June 30, 2008 10:41 AM

I have a 1979 camaro and love it. I currently work for Audi so I see and know a lot about cars. However, I think the front end and grill of this car is very poor. The lights just look cheap and the hood is kind of square. I would like to see you put some more work into the front end of the car.

Posted by: Peter MacGregor on June 30, 2008 7:39 PM

It looks sweet but perhaps chrome or stainless surrounds for the windshield like the first gen cars would dress it up a little, And please make the thing affordable for the average working man

Posted by: Adam on June 30, 2008 9:21 PM

I saw a new camaro on the highway last week and I must say I am very impressed. I thought Ford did a good job on the Mustang but I think GM has once again outdone the competition. I can't wait to test drive one.

Posted by: Eddie on July 1, 2008 12:02 AM

the new camaro is freakin awesome!!!!!!

Posted by: tiffany on July 1, 2008 11:16 AM

I agree with the last few comments. I was really excited about the concept and love the 69 SS but the final product disapoints. Its too small, too generic-chevy looking (a bow tie?!), the front-end looks tacky and the interior is awful. To be honest, if they gave it a decent suspension I would buy a Mustang now.

Posted by: David Mann on July 1, 2008 2:56 PM

The convertible is great. I'm not going to comment on looks, interior, or power. I buy only american cars and only convertibles. Why do I have to buy another Jeep Wrangler while I wait two more years? I've been waiting for this convertible for three years now, and it appears I'm likely two years away. Can't Chevy introduce the convetible at the same time as the coupe?

Posted by: jim on July 1, 2008 9:19 PM

what date is the chevy camaro comeing out to the dealers so people can buy them

Posted by: alex on July 2, 2008 12:17 PM

Ahhhh
I went from a 2002 Camero to a Corvette, yet would take that convertible in a heartbeat.

Posted by: Debby on July 2, 2008 2:12 PM

I think the camaro convertible should be produced sooner so they can be bought in 2009 because i have serious plans in getting one and would like to get the convertible next year instead of having to wait til 2010

Posted by: PVT Dyson on July 3, 2008 6:44 PM

i love camaros, and i love the throwback design on the 5th gen. one. i have to say the shifter is too short, use something similar to what is on corvettes now. also, please make sure the tradition of low cost that led to quotes such as "poor man's corvette" and "corvette like muscle for those with a corvair like budget" continues. overall, this is a very hot mustang killing ride:)

Posted by: scott on July 3, 2008 8:06 PM

Thank goodness for the Camaro. GM is finally going to take BACK its place from those Mopar hacks. I wonder with all the success enjoyed by Mopar and Ford with the whole retro lines, why hasn't GM done the same with GTO and Camaro long ago. My generation is waiting for our old hereos to return, looks like they are. Well done!!!

Posted by: jack on July 3, 2008 8:09 PM

I love the Camaro and the Camaro Convertible!!! I can't wait to go to the auto show and sit in them! Chevrolet is one of my favorite brands of GM! GM is the best car company ever (in my opinion)!!!!! All I have to say is thank you GM for building another wonderful car! Chevrolet and GM rule!

Lets hope for 3 things in this car number one: Price , two: dependability three: upgrade-ability . a.w.d. would be smart hence the nissan gt-r (watch ur butts chevy competition is about to arrvie very soon) im a lover of all cars but lets face it its time for some help with the handleing and comfort of the ride mabie tempur-pedic with work out a deal for the seat's ;-) . lol . gl gm lets really see what u got for us rember your supposed to represent US (the people) not corporate intrest .. for once ... please .

Posted by: a.meador on July 4, 2008 2:46 AM

I love the new exterior, the bigger rear-wheel size, its simply awesome. i do agree with some other people on the speedometer & rpm's whats up with that?? i like the gauges on the center console & the rest of the interior isn't bad either but those gauges!!!!

Posted by: Fernie on July 4, 2008 3:42 AM

The new Camaro looks awesome for the most part. Aside from the looks inside and out, PLEASE don't pull a Ford and give this baby an outrageous sticker price and do not restrict the production in efforts to further increase the sales price or it will suffer the same fate the Thunderbird and Cougar did. Also, you better put the best fuel efficient engine in it you can find since gasoline will never be cheap again apparently.
I can't wait to see one up close and personal!

Posted by: Brian on July 4, 2008 8:44 AM

I have two word that describes the camaro, and that is sleek and stylish! I think GM has done a great job with the new camaro.

need to make the convertible a hard top! The rag top takes away from the toughness of the car.

Posted by: charles on July 6, 2008 12:25 AM

its about time, what a great looking muscle car .

Posted by: terry on July 6, 2008 1:49 AM

The car looks great. A few of the retro touches don't make alot of sense like auxiliary gauges that are way out of normal view. However, the retro feel is right on and the car will be a hit if it has the proportions and wheel sizes as shown. Too bad sales will be small; with $5 gas coming this car is going to be a weekend toy and not that much of a daily driver. I just can't imagine driving one with a 6 cylinder engine no matter what.

Posted by: Bert on July 6, 2008 5:37 PM

This car is a work of art. One of the most beautiful cars in a long time.
Exterior and Interior look fantastic! Don't change a thing.

Posted by: Robert on July 6, 2008 11:30 PM

Long Live Detroit, The Bow Tie, and Camaro. Great Job fellas, an instant classic!!!

Posted by: Brian on July 6, 2008 11:52 PM

I hope GM troubles don't foil plans for the Camaro release? Anyhow, just please offer a base model with all performance goodies as an option, including 6-speed manual and 400-hp V-8. If I had my wish, it would be a plain-jane, stripper to keep the cost down. After all, Camaro has always been a "poor man's Corvette". GM, don't lose sight of your target market. Heck, I don't even want power windows. Can you say COPO?

Posted by: Jim on July 7, 2008 1:01 AM

Why is it taking forever to get this car to market? There is no other car company in the world that I know of that take so long to bring a product to market.

Posted by: Felix Biggers on July 7, 2008 2:17 PM

Don't change a thing. It looks stellar. Cant wait to get my hands on one.

Posted by: Bob on July 7, 2008 3:50 PM

Please move the Camaro over to the EREV Platform. Its a beautiful car but no one will want one with 10 buck a gallon gas looming in the horizon. Dont go broke with a ICE version of this car, it deserves
better. Only the rich people will drive it and the poor people might buy it just to look at it because they cant afford to drive it.

Posted by: jeremy wayne wilson on July 7, 2008 6:15 PM

I have been a chevy fan my whole life, I won't drive anything else. My favorite used to be the vette but now its second to the 2010 camaro, I love it. Even though I can never afford a new car its still number one on my wishlist.

I have never deviated from the love of the '68 Camero until now, and I can't imagine this model being topped out. Thank you for a stunningly, beautiful and an outstanding performance producing automobile. Forever devoted to the Camero, Trina/catztayl584

GM I believe I share the same opinion as alot of us, keep it basic meat and potatoes are what everyone wants , power and performance that all we really want not all the flashy luxury of something its not intended to be . This car is a muscle car plan and simple , stepping back and sticking with the basics will keep this car affordable and desired for years

Posted by: eric on July 8, 2008 1:54 PM

GM whats up!!!!!!I love the camaro.I love everything about it.I just wish you guys would hurry up and start selling it already.I have a '99 camaro and I dont let anyone drive it and I wouldnt be caught dead driving anything but my camaro.I would only give it up for this new one. Please dont change a thing on this car.Keep it the way it is and just make sure its faster than a mustang gt and a challenger r/t,as long as you do that Im pretty sure everyone is going to want a camaro.

Posted by: Jimmy on July 8, 2008 8:13 PM

I can't wait for the 2010 Camaro to come out! I have been waiting for this day since 2002 when they canceled the F-Body.
However, I think it still needs some work. First the fake Z06 style scoop needs to be removed and the grill needs to be squared off a little (like the '69 it is modeled after) not the "V" shape it currently is. Also, the headlights need to either be round or be behind doors. Please change the squared oval tail lights. If you must keep quad lights please square them like '67-'68, or do the right thing and put 3 square lights at both ends once again look at the 1969 for inspiration, not everything Chevy makes needs to be "Corvette Inspired," make it different like the Camaro has always been.
I can not wait to get my order in. I need another great car to sit next to my '97 Camaro SS.

The Camero looks really good. Can't wait until more information is revealed such as pricing and the actual date it hits the showroom and for the test drive.

What is taking so long for you to produce the Camaro!..I think I saw it in the movie Transformers like 3 years ago! Seriously, it's taking waay too long..the design concept may grow stale in people's minds if you take too long..we've seen this car already.

Posted by: Gion on July 9, 2008 1:40 PM

This car is awesome!!!! The first time I saw it in the movie Transformers I wanted one. I love this car so much!!! I didn't get to enter the contest though for the chance to win one, but I wanted to so bad! Everything about this car is awesome and it rocks. I wanted a 69 Camaro before, but now I want this one. This car is the best and I hope I can get one.

Come on GM! You have it in you to give us a hard top conv., you proved it with SSR. Love the old school look and all, but its time for the hard top look! Plus it would keep a theft from cutting open the top, like the top on my Firebird now. So, PLEASE think about a conv. hard top!!!

To whom it may concern @ G.M.
HURRY UP WITH THE CAR!!! I work @ a Chevy dealer and we get at least 1-3 people a day wanting to buy or see a new Camaro!! The excitement is now, HURRY so we can get the car on the road.

Posted by: Trace Takaki on July 10, 2008 12:50 PM

As an avid Chevy owner for 30 years I must say I like the new Camaro very much. I'm on the "waiting list". However I do need to voice my opinion about Chevrolet interiors, not only on the Camaro but in every Chevy (GM) product. When can we have a choice of interior colors like in the "OLD" days? I can't stan another tan/gray or grafite seat. What ever happened to the the 10 different colors to choose from? I really want a white interior in my new Camaro. I may have to have an interior made locally after I purchase the car. I also must echo those who feel that the camaro should have been out a year ago. Or at least have a preproduction car touring the car shows. Dont force me to buy Ford.......

Posted by: BOB on July 10, 2008 2:56 PM

Well the pictures of the new camaro are spectacular. I will probably not see the real thing until they come out becouse i live in Oregon and chances are I will never own one but I cannot wait to see it on the road.

Posted by: Brandon on July 11, 2008 2:15 AM

I am 23 and through JR high and High School my neighbor had a 69 SS tricked out. I sat in that car and just wished that I could have it. Y'all have done a world better than I could have ever wished. You have given a new generation their own bad A Camaro. I am a professional now and I can tell you that I will be standing in line to get my dream car. Then I will take it back home and race my old neighbor.!

Posted by: Tim S on July 11, 2008 2:41 PM

Hey guys,
This is awsome front to back. There is not a thing I can really find that needs to be tweaked on this car. I am hoping that the materials used inside are not cheap like some of them used in the GM products sitting in my driveway.
I currently own 3 GM vehicles and I am happy with all of them, and am looking forward to adding this to the collection.
It is long overdue to have the "American Muscle" brought back and with such a VINTAGE twist on it!
LONG OVERDUE!!! If the mechanics on this are as good as the cosmetics, you will have nothing to worry about at all!!
Thanks for bringing it back!

I purchased a new 2008 gmc truck jan 17 2008 and a 2007 pontiac g6 convertible sports package the following week for my wife and I can tell ya this the new camero convertible is next on my list to buy for my son the moment it shows up on the dealers lot

Posted by: joe heuneman on July 11, 2008 10:24 PM

Hi:

Love the car except for one thing. No hardtop convertible.
My wife says she will by a corvette as soon as you come out with a hardtop convertible and I'm kind of the same way about the camaro. I want the car, I want a convertible but I CAN"T STAND rag tops .
I looked at the Cadillac XLR-V but I just don't like the lines of the car. I do however like the Camaro, especially with the SS paint job such as the one on the orange car in your video or the one from Transformers.
So please consider the power retractable roof option on some of your other cars.

Posted by: Ron Waldon on July 12, 2008 4:37 AM

Hmmmm..... why does it have to look like that? Last time I checked it was 2008 and not 1968. Nostalgia isn't going to cut it in today's market. If you have to have a retro Camaro, how about bringing back the Firebird on the same platform but giving it a completely different and contemporary look. Perhaps you could even go somewhat futuristic with the Firebird. To me, the previous generation of F bodies was the best looking of all the generations. In particular, I loved the smooth and sleek look of the Firebird Formula. Also, the Camaro interior is horrid. The instrument cluster looks OK but those silly gauges on the console??? Put them where they belong! In front of the driver. I'm going to hold out for something else to replace my 2005 Grand Am GT coupe. Come on GM. Give us Pontiac enthusiasts a Firebird or G8 Coupe!

Posted by: Ele Landrian-Maldonado on July 14, 2008 1:38 PM

Thank you for bringing the Camaro back.

I am a long time Chevy lover and am glad to see Chevy changing with the times and providing good product now.

If I may suggest the following; Please have heavy to the touch instrument buttons, gauges and knobs. Like that in German vehicles. Cheap plastic, light to the touch doesn't have a quality lasting feel to it.

The only other idea, can you do a COPO or a strippo version. Steel wheels maybe 17 or 18", dog dish hubcaps, bare bone, no stripes, maybe a reference to engine size with huge power and drive train, simple interior maybe vinyl, looped carpet? I will buy this version. This is my preference.

Lots of people are watching to see if Chevy can pull this off. I have been cheering for you!

Posted by: franz on July 14, 2008 1:43 PM

This is a stunning design, retro hints without being stuck in the past. Unlike some drivers, I am content with the SS moniker even if the Z28 is no longer in the picture. I do, however, agree with some that I hope that the interior is a bit more restrained than the photos I have seen. I lease a BMW and might consider a switch to the Camaro if mileage and pricing prove acceptable.

Posted by: Bill Harris on July 14, 2008 5:13 PM

I think it sucks! This car looks like a cross between a Mustang and a Dodge. Get real! My first car was a mustang and I went to camaro because I enjoyed the appearance and the muscle. Get back to reality. This is nothing I would have ever pictured a Camaro to be. I was excited about the 99 concept. You guys screwed up. I don't want to look like everyone else on the road! I was looking forward to buying the new Camaro, Guess I'll stick with my Silverado SS

Posted by: Tim on July 15, 2008 9:43 AM

While there is substantial call for more fuel efficient cars, you can't ignore us folks who, quite frankly, don't care about fuel efficiency as much as style and performance. GM doesn't have to make many fast, good looking, great handling cars with V6s and V8s, but they still need to make some - and not in Corvette price territory.

I love the Camaro, God bless you all at GM for bringing it back, and my CD will mature in April next year - coincidentally, the exact month the Camaro is scheduled for full production and sale. I'll take my SS or Z28 in silver, black leather with that great orage stitching from the concept, and a 6 speed manual.

Those who want a chartruse econobox with 15" wheels and a sewing machine motor, you need not bash the Camaro.

Posted by: Joe, Cleveland OH on July 15, 2008 10:27 AM

Bob,
I really like the interior and the how they are laid out. I like that it has a little bit of an old school look with the technology of today. Just can't wait to have on in my driveway. Just wish there was a little more information out there, so that I can start designing mine NOW!

Posted by: Sheila on July 15, 2008 12:09 PM

To Ed and Bob

The new Camaro looks amazing and I can't wait to get one for myself. The body lines and 60's look of the car really give the car the classic camaro look. I was wondereing what the price range is for the car from base model to the premium luxury edition.

Posted by: Justin on July 15, 2008 1:29 PM

Man, I remember when my Dad gave me his 1972 Camaro and me and my Grandfather rebuilt the engine in it. From there I acquired a 1983 Camaro and also an 1987 Camaro, I can't wait until the new Camaro comes out. As I always say I'll have a mustang for breakfast, lunch, dinner and snacks in between. There is nothing like the Camaro.

O MY GOD!! This is the best GMC vehicle that has been invented, and possibly the best they will come up with. The interior looks amazingly awsome! The outside is the best it could ever be. The first time I ever saw the new Camaro was in the movie Transformers. I fell in love with it from the start. Overall it makes me sick, because I wont be able to have one when I turn sixteen. My wish isjust to ride in the in passenger seat of one...heck I would ride in the back! You did good guys!

OMG! I'm dying over here!!! I CAN NOT WAIT for this car to come available!!! From the 1st time I saw it in the movie Transformers (and could not focus on anything else in the movie after that) I have been dying for this to come available. I have a '97 RS right now with an awesome custom paint job ~ but as much as I love her - she is retiring once I can get my hands on this one!!!! GREAT JOB!!! You got me hooked! :)

GM, you really need this vehicle out ASAP as of 2 years ago. I was tired of waiting and bought myself a 2002 Camaro Z28 Feb 2008 but will really consider trading in my G6 for the Camaro hardtop in the Z28 or SS model. Hurr Hurry Hurry

I LOVE this car! I always wanted a Mustang but, not after seeing the Transformer movie! I cannot wait...

Mr Lutz, I really like the new camaro. I own a 2006 Z06, a 2007 cobalt, a2008 malibu LTZ, & a 2007 silverado, extended cab Z71. And my son owns a 2008 Avalnche LTZ, so I am a Chevrolet supporter in the very truest form. My only request on the new Camaro, is put an LS7 in an SS model....and in a convertable model as well. Make them a limited edition series, maybe some stripes, or a bumblebee stripe. Thanks for all you do, Tim Bland.

I stumbled into the Camaro and this site shopping on Cars Direct. It's gorgeous, and I'm a ready buyer, but please heed the Jan.6 & 7 and July 6,10,12 & 13 postings:

Power sunroof!
Power sunroof!
Power sunroof!

Without it, I too must pass.
With it -- I'm in.

This car is a definite buy. I am loving the body style. I do realize that it is still in concept mode so the interior will not be exactly the same as when it starts being produced. However, the photos that I have seen thus far of the interior is not to my liking, nothing really special about the interior at all. You should change it up a little bit, put something in there that no other car has at the moment. Just make it something different because this is a hot car and it deserves a good looking interior. It would be interesting, I think, to test drive one of these in a hard-top convertible. Keep up the good work

Well, honestly, I think that the convertible is coming out pretty good. Even though I'm all about the coupe, I would actually consider buying the convertible instead of the coupe.

The Camaro coupe looks great. I can't wait to see photos of the convertible. I'm just trying to decide between an SS or another Corvette. If the Camaro is a quality product it will be the way to go!

I too agree with McKay def need a sunroof or moonroof. Absolutely loving the car, and def is a must buy with a sunroof/moonroof.

Bob, please release some more info on the converible to us and your dealers, ie. color options and some idea of pricing. I got to see the new 'vert in May 07 at the F-Body gathering in Atlanta and was sold then and there, so much so that I just sold my '04 MazdaSpeed Miata, which I dearly loved, and have banked the money to buy the vert. I am Bowtie to the bone and can't wait to put this in my garage next to my '72 ElCamino. One caveat though, it must have a V-8.

I can't wait to own my second Camero. My first one was a '68 which I let go of before I knew how popular they would be. The new Camero looks beautiful except for one thing - the sides with the dished in squares looks like a Mustang. Oh NO!!
